How to be more confident

I have a casting for a fashion show today. That means I'll be showing my walk and my figure to a panel of critical judges and the scrutinizing eyes of my competition.

It's more than a little nerve-racking.

When I first started in this industry, I had zero confidence. Sure, people told me constantly that I could be a model, but I didn't believe it. Those other models had something I didn't and whatever it was, I didn't think I could get it.

Fast forward to today, and though I still wouldn't consider myself an expert (I've got a lot to learn!), I'm much more confident in my ability to rule that runway or rock a photoshoot.

So how did I get here?

1. I learned more about the industry.

My lack of knowledge was the source of a lot of my fears around modeling. So I started reading articles and watching videos on how to walk, how to pose, what to wear to castings, etc. The more I learned, the more the fear started to fade.

2. I challenged myself.

I went to castings. I shot with photographers. I took classes. In the beginning, it didn't feel great. I felt inadequate, unprepared, and unskilled. But the more I accomplished, the more I wanted to do. Each success boosted my confidence and showed me that I could actually do a lot more than I thought.

3. I believed in myself.

All the compliments and positive feedback people gave me meant nothing until I believed it myself. I had years of negative internal and external messages to counteract, so the things they said just went in one ear and out the other.

What finally made the difference for me was changing the way I talked to myself. I started saying positive and uplifting things to myself instead of constantly doubting my abilities and judging myself harshly. A morning declaration is a great way to put this into practice. Try this one: "I am beautiful, intelligent, talented, and loved."

I still do these things each day so I can continue to build my confidence to even greater heights. When I'm confident in myself and what I can do, there's just no stopping me!

Think of an area where you'd like to have more confidence. How can you apply these steps to see an improvement in the way you feel? Can you start now? Of course you can! You have something special to offer the world that no one else can. Don't wait another day!

Comment below and let me know your plan to increase your confidence and what area you're working on.
